Barack Obama is an American politician who was the 44th president of the United States, serving from 2009 to 2017. He is a member of the Democratic Party and became the first African American to hold the office of president. Before his presidency, Obama represented Illinois in the U.S. Senate from 2005 to 2008. He also served as an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004.
