Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali writer, composer, and artist who played a major role in the Bengal Renaissance. He achieved international recognition in 1913 when he became the first Asian and the first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Tagore was also the first lyricist to win this award.
